A1 Grammar | Master German Verb Conjugation

Regular German verbs follow a predictable pattern. Remove the -en ending from the infinitive to get the stem, then add the personal endings.
Example: spielen (to play) → Stem: spiel

The three most important irregular verbs in German are sein (to be), haben (to have), and werden (to become). You MUST memorize these!

Separable verbs have a prefix that separates from the main verb in a sentence. The prefix goes to the end of the sentence!
Example: aufstehen (to get up) → Ich stehe ... auf.
